Termites, also known as White Ants. Often termites do extensive damage to a building before they are even detected. The queen controls the colony and may produce up to 2000 eggs per day. Nests are usually in the ground, under the roots of a tree. The queen directs the termite members to seek food, supplies and maintain the nest and colony structure.
By building protective mud leads, termites can tunnel up to 100 metres underground in search of food, usually timber. They can enter your house through tiny cracks or gaps, or they can build leads over obstructions, in order to get at the timber structure. They work deep inside the timber, eating it out from within.
Termite Inspections
Are a must for all homeowners. Regular inspections by a licensed pest inspector are important, he will be able discover hints and clues of termite infestation long before the results of their presence are obvious.
PPI's - Pre-purchase property inspections are visual timber pest inspections carried out for the detection of possible termite presence within a property you are interested in purchasing. Inspections are carried out in the same manner in which we advise visual timber pest inspections are carried out to existing homeowners properties. When financing a sale, you will need a Timber Pest and Building Inspection carried out by a qualified inspector.
Intrusive Investigations
It maybe recommended if termites and damage have been detected to the property, that a more intrusive investigation be carried out by the use of a Fibre Optic Borescope to concealed internal wall cavities, to determine if termites have reached the internal timbers and for evidence of how extensive damage may be. This type of investigation will indicate the exact wall linings etc, that need to be replaced if necessary and can save you money in the long run, opening up wall linings unnecessarily.
Active Treatments
Treatments management programs can be carried out to enable termite colony eradications and installing barriers to deter future termite attack. Chemical barriers can be applied to subfloors and to external perimeters of dwellings with a recommended termiticide chosen specifically for the treatment. Sometimes this treatment is applied directly to the soil and in other cases, drilled and injected into concrete slabs. Landscape timbers, sleepers, retainer walls, etc. can be treated along with suspect trees, which can be drilled and temperature probed and treated. Treatments are individualised to specific property needs.
In some cases it maybe necessary to powder treat active workings before commencing soil treatments etc. Treatments are carried out within the Australian standards 3660.2 (existing dwellings) with care and expertise. We can also provide termite baiting stations which are strategically placed in high risk areas to monitor the threat of termite attack if a termite colony is present within the property or possibly attacks made later to the property which entails regular inspections of the stations.
Pre-Construction - Chemical or physical barriers (Within the Australian standard 3660.1) can be applied or installed depending on the situation and the clients requirements (within council regulations). For more information on the types of barriers and installations of termiticides, reticulation and granit (Granitgard - physical, non chemical barriers) speak to one of our friendly staff and they will be able to explain and give assistance to you.
